On July 23, RA Shirak Governor Tigran Petrosyan visited the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS) Headquarters, where met with Dr. Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan, ARCS President and Dr. Anna Yeghiazaryan, ARCS Secretary General .
During the meeting, the governor of Shirak was informed that the most affected 960 families, 4300 people in total, by the hail in Shirak region on June 27,will receive financial assistance from the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS). Each member of these families will receive 35 215 AMD (151 424 500 AMD in total).
After the disaster, the Shirak regional administration conducted a preliminary needs assessment to identify the most vulnerable families, who lost 75 to 100 percent of the harvest. The Armenian Red Cross Society, as a humanitarian organization an auxiliary to the government, applied to the Emergency Response Funds of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise funds to support hail-affected populations and received a positive response.
The Armenian Red Cross Society will finalize the clarification of the most affected families' lists in close cooperation with regional and local authorities. During the meeting they also discussed the process and results of the activities carried out by the Armenian Red Cross Society in the region, the current cooperation with the Shirak regional administration and future plans.
