On 19 September, ARCS in cooperation with UNHCR conducted a training on «National Security and Refugee Protection» for senior entry officials of Zvartnots airport.
During the opening of the event participants were welcomed by the Head of Asylum Department Petros Aghababyan, Representative of UNHCR Christoph Bierwirth and Head of Border Guards of Zvartnots BCP Samvel Aghajanyan. The workshop was attended by 27 people, including Zvartnots airports border guards and employees of the Passport and Visa Administration.
Representative of UNHCR Christoph Bierwirth presented basic principles of the international protection of refugees and the role of UNHCR as relevant for Border Guards to the participants. Also the role and responsibilities of border guards under the national Law on State Border and the Law on Border Guards and Refugee Protection were discussed.
During the final part of the event also practical exercises were conducted by ARCS and UNHCR representatives.
