Armenian Red Cross Society jointly with UNHCR organized a roundtable for senior entry officials of RA Bavra, Gogavan, Meghri, Bagratshen BCPs and “Zvartnots” and” Gyumri” airport as well as Border Guards Squat and National Security Service representatives

Armenian Red Cross Society jointly with UNHCR organized a roundtable for senior entry officials of RA Bavra, Gogavan, Meghri, Bagratshen BCPs and “Zvartnots” and” Gyumri” airport as well as Border Guards Squat and National Security Service representatives on the 1st and 2nd of June, in the frames of “Improving refugee reception and promoting integration of persons of concern in Armenia” UNHCR funded project.
The goal of the roundtable was to raise awareness about mechanisms of the access to the territory and asylum procedure as well as identification and referral of asylum-seekers.

With the participation of “FRONTEX” expert as well as UNHCR, ARCS and SMS representatives basic principles, governing the protection of refugees, UNHCR’s global mandate, refugee protection and mixed migration; Identification of asylum-seekers, identification of asylum seekers and referral to asylum procedure, reception arrangements and assistance at ports of entry as well as non-penalization for illegal entry and presence were introduced during 2 days meeting.

The active discussions led to identification of financial and contextual gapes in the procedures and implementation processes. ARCS representatives introduced its activities including BCP (border crossing point) monitoring component and translation service for asylum seekers and refugees.

The feedbacks from partners stressed the importance of such kind of meetings aiming to improve protection system for asylum seekers.
